With so much talk about the economic recession all around us, this headline grabbed my eye. I just could not stop laughing after reading the report ! 🙂

As the story goes, the authorities at Kanha National Park, approached the Andaman and Nicobar administration for ten  elephants which used to carry logs after trees had been felled.

Andaman and Nicobar administration officials agreed. Four of the elephants were already sent and six more will be sent next month. Absolutely no problem with that. What cracked me up was the reason given by the official at Port Blair.

These elephants have become jobless since Supreme Court banned felling of trees in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2001 and were putting a burden on the exchequer for their salary and perks.’ said Khajan Singh, the Wildlife in-charge.

And we thought only humans needed to have jobs! 🙂
