Sikkim has become the first state in the country to have achieved complete sanitation under the government’s Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC). “Sikkim is the first state to achieve complete sanitation and under TSC as 60 per cent of rural households have gone for total sanitation,” Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh told reporters here today. The minister while interacting with media persons during a function held for honouring gram panchayat presidents who have been awarded with Nirmal Gram Puraskar (NGP) for achieving 100 per cent sanitation in their villages said as of now eight districts in the country have been successful in achieving complete sanitation standards. Tripura would soon become the second state after Sikkim to achieve total sanitation in the country, a ministry official said at the sidelines of the function.
