Dispur today gave kidney transplant patients a New Year gift by launching a free medication scheme for those who have undergone the critical surgery. Launched by Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi , the “challenging and novel” scheme initiated by the state health and family welfare department would provide free post-kidney transplant immuno-suppressive drugs essential to maintain the function of the transplanted kidney. The drugs, which costs a patient anywhere between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 a month, would be initially available at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital and would be gradually extended to all the two medical colleges of the state.  Read more at http://www.telegraphindia.com/1090105/jsp/northeast/story_10344236.jsp
