India is turning into an e-waste dump, with Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad being the largest contributors, according to Chikmagalur-based NGO Clean World. “More than 30% kids in Bangalore are born with the chronic disease Asthma. This is due to poisonous elements like lead, cadmium and mercury, which are released when e-waste is burnt,” said secretary of Clean World, Vijayraj, at an awareness campaign meeting here on Wednesday. “Inhaling these elements is 30 times more hazardous than inhaling carbon monoxide (CO).” Experts define e-waste as any piece of discarded electronic devices and components, plus substances involved in their manufacture or use.
