The Gujarat government will soon announce its new comprehensive livestock policy aimed at the socio-economic uplift of the rural masses and also boosting women empowerment through the scientific development of the animal husbandry sector in the state. According to Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Dilip Sanghani, the main thrust in the draft policy is to increase the growth rate of per capita milk and animal protein availability by providing incentives to co-operative societies and small private dairies. It also focuses on women empowerment, for, about 80 per cent of the rural womenfolk in Gujarat are engaged in animal husbandry.
