2608 AIDS cases (1465 male and 1143 female) have been reported in Nagaland between 1994 to October 2008, according to an available source. The most effected age-group is the 25-34 years old, at 47.01 per cent and transmission through the sexual route standing at 91.1 per cent.

Karnataka is so highly prone to AIDS that the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) now thinks a one-year post-graduate fellowship programme on HIV/AIDS is desperately needed.
